Logistics and warehousing companies gear up for a robust festive season

Logistics is at the heart of enabling India’s festive season-led consumption spurt
As the festive season approaches, logistics and warehousing companies are gearing up to handle demand especially from e-commerce. The companies are scaling up their operations, building new capacity and also leveraging temporary staff.
Anuj Kejriwal, MD and CEO — Retail, Warehousing & Logistics — ANAROCK Group, said e-commerce majors are adding well over 360,000 seasonal jobs in their supply chain operations, with just one major player responsible for over 2/3rd of these additions.
“The expectation is a 25 per cent sales spike this festive season over last year’s, with warehousing demand rising by over 40 per cent over the same time last year,” he told businessline.
“India now has warehousing stock of well over 500 million square feet, and over 640 new delivery hubs will be added in tier-II and tier-III cities to meet the rising demand for storage space,” he added.
Anshul Singhal, MD, Welspun One, said that logistics is at the heart of enabling India’s festive season-led consumption spurt. Over the years, the surge in e-commerce and quick commerce has fundamentally changed the demand curve, it is no longer about one-time peak stocking, but about ensuring seamless, high-frequency deliveries across multiple city nodes, he said.
Building capacity
“We are preparing for this by building capacity in high-demand consumption hubs, especially in-city and port-adjacent locations. Our approach is data-led and we work closely with occupiers to map demand drivers and build flexible, compliant and scalable warehousing ecosystems that can absorb short-term spikes without compromising long-term efficiency,” Singhal added.
According to Ramnath Subramaniam, Joint Managing Director, TVS ILP, the company’s Grade-A parks are designed with a scalable and customisable model to ensure that during peak season, brands can expand capacity and streamline operations based on requirements.
During festive peaks, the company supports clients with power-load enhancements to operate additional conveyors, forklifts, trailers, and other essential systems, he said.
To ensure e-commerce supply chains remain scalable and responsive, Mahindra Logistics Ltd is adding over 0.8 million sq/ft of temporary warehousing capacity, establishing 50 new delivery stations, expanding reach to over 500 additional pin codes — primarily across tier-II and tier-III markets and adding about 10,000 additional workforce, said Hemant Sikka, Managing Director & CEO.
Demand surge
The festive season is expected to trigger a substantial surge in demand across sectors, he added.
The company’s fleet of 6,000 vehicles dedicated to last-mile delivery further strengthens our ability to manage festive volumes with greater efficiency and speed, he added.
Early trends indicate a robust festive season this year.
Unicommerce, India’s leading e-commerce and retail enablement SaaS platforms, reported a 24 per cent growth in e-commerce order volumes along with a 27 per cent increase in gross merchandise volume for the pre-Rakshabandhan sales during 2025 as compared to 2024.
This is based on 18 million order items processed by Unicommerce through its flagship platform Uniware, during the seven-day period from July 31 to August 6, 2025, compared with the sale window last year (August 10 to 16, 2024).
