India’s digital platform for seamless airport entry—Digi Yatra—will be rolled out at four new airports in the next few months.

Accordingly, the biometric-based system will be introduced at airports in Chandigarh, Thiruvananthapuram, Mangaluru and Srinagar.

The primary goal of the app is to improve the passenger experience at airports by reducing the requirement for human validation of tickets and identification documents at contact points.

In totality, the facility has been efficient in decongesting airport departure terminal areas during busy travel seasons.

The platform is currently operational at 24 airports across the country, with an average of 30,000 daily downloads.

According to Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO of Digi Yatra Foundation, the app is gaining popularity.

“We expect to see 1.65 crore downloads of the application by August 2025, with nearly 14.7 million users as of now,” Khadakbhavi said.

This growth trajectory, said Khadakbhavi, underscores the app’s potential to revolutionise the airport experience for millions of passengers.

In a bid to make the app more accessible to domestic travellers, Digi Yatra also plans to introduce support for all 22 official languages.

This move, Khadakbhavi said, is expected to provide a better and more immersive experience for a broader and more diverse range of passengers.

“By adding all national languages, we aim to provide a better and more immersive experience for a broader and more diverse range of passengers, ensuring that all users across India can navigate the airport entry process with ease,” Khadakbhavi added.

The introduction of multi-language support is a significant step towards making air travel more inclusive and convenient for passengers. With this feature, passengers will be able to navigate the airport entry process in their preferred language, reducing confusion and enhancing their overall travel experience.

The updated version of the app, Digi Yatra 2.0, is currently in the testing phase and is expected to be launched soon.

The new version plans to extend its functionality to international travel, pending coordination with various stakeholders, including domestic and international regulatory bodies.
