Vladimir Kramnik Under Fire: Russian Star Faces Ethics Investigation; Fide Begins Probe

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) is investigating Vladimir Kramnik over controversial comments surrounding the death of American grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky. Federation president Arkady Dvorkovich warned against harassment, bullying, and personal attacks in public debates. Kramnik’s statements, made before and after Naroditsky’s October 20 death, have been referred to FIDE’s Ethics & Disciplinary Commission. Naroditsky, former World Junior Champion, died unexpectedly at 29, announced by the Charlotte Chess Center. Last year, he accused Kramnik of cheating online and appeared distressed in an October 18 Twitch broadcast, later deleted but reviewed by USA TODAY. Kramnik defended himself to Reuters, citing personal bullying and even murder threats. Top players, including Hikaru Nakamura and Magnus Carlsen, criticized Kramnik’s treatment of Naroditsky.
