Tech-powered turbulence watch for safe air travel
As turbulence becomes an increasingly serious challenge for airlines, due to the rising frequency and severity, Emirates has taken a data-driven approach to plan smoother flights. The airline has adopted a diverse, multi-layered strategy, leveraging multiple information sources to deliver real-time, accurate turbulence data. This has helped reduce unexpected severe turbulence encounters on flights across its network; new initiatives launched last year have helped enhance the onboard experience for passengers and crew. Captain Hassan Alhammadi, Divisional Senior Vice President-Flight Operations at Emirates, said: “We’re committed to doing everything possible to minimise unexpected severe turbulence encounters through working with partners who share our vision of using advanced technologies and adopting AI to enhance operations.”
N Korea, Russia rapped over flight safety
The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) assembly has endorsed its governing council’s finding that recurring incidents of global navigation satellite system (GNSS) radio frequency interference (RFI) originating from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Russian Federation territory constitute infractions of the 1944 Convention on International Civil Aviation. The ICAO assembly condemned the DPRK and the Russian Federation for the infractions and called upon them to comply strictly with their obligations under the convention. The assembly also deplored the fact that the infractions have continued in disregard of the concerns repeatedly expressed by the ICAO council over the harmful impact of GNSS-RFI on the safety and security of international civil aviation.
