Tea prices drop at Coonoor auctions on subdued demand

A subdued demand prevailed in Coonoor Tea auctions which are more prevalent in dust grades, thanks to Puja holidays.

Despite active participation of blenders and packateers, tea prices of several varieties witnessed a declining trend in sale 40, traders said.

Global Tea Auctioneers said that the sales percentage was lower in the auction platform with 15,77,829 kg in leaf grades, witnessing 84 per cent sales, while for dust it was 63 per cent out of the offered quantity of 4,51,720 kg.

The high-priced teas and better liquoring sorts in CTC leaf were fully firm to dearer by ₹4 to 5 and more at times in line with quality. The better medium sorts were barely steady to easier by ₹2 to 3 with fair withdrawals.

The primary whole leaf grades were barely steady to easier by ₹2 to 3 and more at times, occasionally some quality lots sold dearer by ₹3 to 4. The brokens were barely steady to easier by ₹2 to 3, occasionally some quality lots sold dearer by ₹2 to 3.

In dust CTC, the high-priced teas and better liquoring sorts were lower by ₹2 to 3 with some withdrawals, occasionally some quality lots sold dearer by ₹2 to 3. The better medium sorts had less demand and sold easier by ₹2 to 3 with fair withdrawals.

The primary orthodox dust grades were barely steady to occasionally dearer by ₹3 to 4 and more at times in line with quality. The secondaries and finer dusts were barely steady to easier by ₹1 to 2 with few withdrawals.
