SpiceJet plans to double active fleet by November-end

SpiceJet said that all five newly-added aircraft have already commenced commercial operations.

SpiceJet said that all five newly-added aircraft have already commenced commercial operations.

Budget carrier SpiceJet plans to more than double its operational fleet and triple its passenger ferrying capacity (available seat kilometres) by the end of November.

Industry estimates that SpiceJet has 32 aircraft in operation.

Damp lease

Accordingly, the carrier has inducted five additional aircraft on damp lease, taking the total number of new fleet additions to 10.

This includes the successful ungrounding and reactivation of a Boeing 737 MAX, along with three Boeing 737s and an Airbus A340 inducted earlier.

SpiceJet said that all five newly-added aircraft have already commenced commercial operations.

According to the airline, these additions reflect its continued efforts to strengthen operations and offer passengers more travel options.

“The response to our new flights has been extremely encouraging, and we remain committed to further strengthening our operations across both domestic and international markets,” said Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer of SpiceJet.

In recent months, SpiceJet has signed lease agreements for the induction of 18 Boeing 737 aircraft to bolster capacity under the Winter Schedule 2025.

Travel demand

The move comes amid rising air travel demand during the festive and winter seasons.

Some of these aircraft began joining the fleet in October 2025.

Furthermore, the airline aims to bring back grounded aircraft after completing the required maintenance and servicing work.

Apart from expanding its fleet, SpiceJet has also strengthened its financial position.

It recently secured a liquidity infusion of $89.5 million through a settlement agreement with aircraft lessor Carlyle Aviation Partners.
