In the last Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meet in June, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced a 50-basis point (bps) cut to the repo rate, bringing it down to 5.5 per cent from 6 per cent. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra announced the decision in his address two days after the MPC meet commenced on June 7. This follows rate cuts in February and April MPCs during which the repo rate was cut 25 bps on both instances.
There is an expectation of status quo in this MPC meet, especially with retail inflation cooling to 2.10 per cent in June.

The MPC has cut the policy repo rate thrice since February — 25 basis points (bps) each in February and April bi-monthly monetary policy review and by a jumbo 50 bps in June. The repo rate is currently at 5.50 per cent against 6.50 per cent before the February rate cut.
