Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that the proposed Purandar airport project would increase Pune’s gross domestic product (GDP) by at least 2 per cent and significantly accelerate industrial growth in the region.

Addressing a recent review meeting on the project at the Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai, Fadnavis said that several industries are keen to invest in Pune, and the Purandar Airport will play a crucial role in facilitating this. The airport will boost industrial development in Pune and the surrounding region. He added that the project will not be limited to passenger services but will also function as a cargo airport, making it particularly beneficial for the trade of perishable goods. The project is expected to bring significant benefits to the people of Purandar and nearby areas.

TDR Allocation

He added that, to ensure the viability of the Purandar Airport project, all aspects would be examined in detail, and a decision would be taken to provide maximum possible compensation to farmers for land acquired for the airport.

All benefits related to Transferable Development Rights (TDR) will be provided under the Purandar Aerocity project. The children of project-affected farmers will be given 100 per cent priority in employment. After finalising land acquisition rates, skill development centres will be set up to provide industry-relevant training to local youth. He also said that cases registered during earlier agitations related to the project would be withdrawn.

Proper Rehabilitation

Proper rehabilitation of farmers and citizens affected by the Purandar project will be accorded the highest priority, the Chief Minister said. Keeping in mind the need to protect farmers and future generations, the government will consider offering compensation higher than the prevailing land rates. For this reason, the State government has decided to determine land acquisition rates through negotiations rather than following the Ready Reckoner.

The Chief Minister noted that this would be the first project in the State to offer both monetary compensation and alternative land for land acquired for an airport.
