Packateers, blenders demand lift tea prices in Coonoor auctions

Better enquiry from packeteers and blenders has lifted tea prices at Coonoor auctions, witnessing an increased sales percentage.

According to traders, prices moved up by ₹3-4 per kg. Lesser volume offered on the auction platform contributed to the rates increasing.

Global Tea Auctioneers said that the offered quantity in leaf grades was 12,10,399 kg, witnessing a 97 per cent sale. The sales percentage in dust grades was 87 per cent out of the offered quantity of 4,08,290 kg.

The high-priced teas and better liquoring sorts had fair demand and sold dearer by ₹4-5 and more at times in line with quality. The better medium sorts were fully firm to dearer by ₹2-3 and more at times. The mediums and plainer sorts sold dearer by ₹5-6 and more towards the later end of the sale. Generally, a good demand was noticed in the overall CTC leaf sale, the auctioneers said.

In leaf orthodox, the primary whole leaf grades had fair demand and sold dearer by ₹4-5 and more at times in line with quality. The primary brokens were barely steady to dearer by ₹1-2. The secondaries and fannings were lower by ₹2-3 with few withdrawals.

The high-priced teas and better liquoring sorts in CTC dust were generally lower by ₹3-4, occasionally some quality lots sold dearer by ₹2-3. The better medium sorts sold steady to dearer by ₹2-3. The medium sorts sold dearer by ₹3-4. The plainer sorts were fully firm to dearer by ₹1-2.

The primary orthodox dust grades were lower by ₹6 to ₹8.
