Dense fog conditions are likely to disrupt air traffic movement during the morning hours at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) till around December 31, 2025.
According to aviation and weather advisories, North India is expected to face fog conditions during the early hours over the next few days.
Consequently, authorities have cautioned passengers about possible delays and cancellations over the next few days due to reduced visibility.
On Monday morning (December 29, 2025), dense fog blanketed the national capital region, leading to a sharp drop in visibility and impacting flight operations at IGI Airport.
The runway visual range (RVR) fell to around 50 metres during the early morning hours, forcing operations under CAT-III (Category III Instrument Landing System) conditions.
Notably, the airport, on average, handles around 95 flight movements per hour, or nearly 1,200 flights daily.
As per airport data, there were around 130 cancellations till mid-afternoon on Monday.
The readings on flightradar24.com showed that average arrival and departure delays increased due to the cascading impact of weather-related disruptions.
Subsequently, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) issued an advisory cautioning passengers about delays and possible cancellations amid persistent fog conditions.
Besides, the Ministry of Civil Aviation warned that dense fog across parts of northern India could affect flight operations at select airports and advised passengers to plan for additional time for airport arrival and check-in.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to continue during night and morning hours over Delhi till December 31.
The weather office added that shallow to moderate fog is likely on January 1, with a possibility of very light rainfall at isolated places, which could further affect visibility during morning hours.
Meanwhile, on their part, airlines operating from IGI Airport on Monday issued travel advisories to passengers.
Furthermore, IndiGo said that fluctuating visibility at Delhi and Hindon airports led to changes in flight schedules, adding that operations could remain slower than usual as conditions evolved.
The airline advised passengers to monitor their flight status and offered options to rebook or seek refunds if services were impacted.
On its part, Air India said it had taken proactive measures to minimise disruption and assured passengers that ground teams would provide assistance in case of irregular operations.
The airline added that passengers on certain fog-affected flights would receive advance alerts and could change flights or seek refunds without penalty under its ‘FogCare’ initiative.
Additionally, SpiceJet cautioned that poor visibility in Delhi could affect arrivals, departures and consequential flights, asking passengers to keep track of their flight status through official channels.
