Lulu Group launches sustainable farming practices in Pollachi 

Lulu Group has launched global agricultural production initiative in Pollachi to support local farmers and offer sustainable farming practices.

The project was inaugurated with the goal of promoting sustainable farming, while also empowering local farmers by providing them with the necessary resources and expertise to enhance their agricultural practices. Through its Fair Exports division, Lulu takes extra care in procurement, production, packing and ensuring that products reach consumers across the globe through its hypermarkets.

The seed planting activity for the global agricultural production initiative was carried out on 160 acres at Ganapathi Palayam, managed by Lulu Group. The cultivation has begun on 50 acres in the initial phase. The company’s objective is to directly support local farmers while ensuring that high-quality vegetables and fruits are produced in line with global standards.

The agriculture products such as bananas, coconuts, drumsticks, onions and snake gourds, are cultivated to meet the highest global quality standards and sourced for export across Lulu stores globally. Through these initiatives, Lulu aims to provide farm-fresh products to customers worldwide. The Group is committed to organic farming methods, utilising natural fertilisers to maintain soil fertility.

Salim M.A., Director of Global Operations at Lulu, planted saplings to mark the beginning of the project. As part of fish farming, 5,000 fish fingerlings were also introduced into the water to promote integrated and sustainable fish farming practices. This is a new chapter for the company in supporting the agricultural sector and the local economy, he said.
