India and China held the 23rd round of Corps Commander-Level talks at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on October 25, focusing on maintaining peace and stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the western sector, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Tuesday.
In a statement, the MEA said the discussions were held in a “friendly and cordial atmosphere.” This was the first meeting of the General Level Mechanism in the Western Sector since the 24th round of Special Representatives’ Talks on August 19, 2025.
The MEA noted that since the signing of the India–China Border Patrol Agreement in October 2024, “peace and stability have prevailed in the border regions.” Both countries have taken steps to improve bilateral ties, including the resumption of direct flights and expansion of trade and investment links.
The two sides agreed to continue using existing military and diplomatic mechanisms to resolve issues on the ground and maintain stability along the LAC, the ministry added.
China’s defence ministry also confirmed that the latest round of high-level military talks — held on the Indian side of the meeting point — saw both sides commit to sustaining dialogue through established communication channels.
The talks come two months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China in August, his first in seven years, to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. During that visit, PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed that India and China were “development partners, not rivals,” and discussed ways to strengthen trade relations amid global tariff uncertainties.
The latest round of military dialogue is seen as part of ongoing efforts to consolidate recent progress in bilateral relations while ensuring calm along the sensitive border areas.
