IMD Update: North-East monsoon to commence in TN in next 2 days
North-East monsoon is expected to commence over south-east peninsular region (Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema et al) over the next two days with the setting in of easterly to north-easterly winds over the larger South Peninsula; and south and adjoining central Bay of Bengal, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in Tuesday.
This will happen as the preceding south-west monsoon (June-September) exits the remaining parts of the country during this period. The line of withdrawal passed on Tuesday through Karwar; Kalaburagi; Nizamabad; Kanker; and Chandbali, across Karnataka; Telangana; and Chhattisgarh.
Squally weather warned
Separately, the IMD also said the upper air cyclonic circulation over south-west Bay and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean is likely to move west-north westwards towards the Comorin area. This will likely set up a low-pressure area over south-east Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area off Kerala-Karnataka coasts around Sunday.
The IMD has also warned that squally weather with wind speeds reaching 35-45 km/hr gusting to 55 km/hr may prevail over south-east Arabian Sea; Lakshadweep; and Comorin area as also along and off Karnataka; Kerala; and adjoining South Tamil Nadu coasts, for four days from Friday. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these sea-bound areas as also around Lakshadweep Islands and along extreme south peninsular coasts.
