The Gujarat government is planning to buy ₹15,000 crore worth of Kharif crops from November 9 at Minimum Support Prices (MSP) from farmers across the state.

The crops that will be bought on MSP under the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) will include groundnut, moong, urad and soybean. The government has designated more than 300 centres that will buy various agricultural produce from the farmers, stated the government in an official release. The government has announced MSP of ₹7,263 per quintal for groundnut, ₹8,768 per quintal for moong, ₹7,800 per quintal for urad and ₹5,328 per quintal for soybean. Compared to last year, the MSP of groundnut has been increased by ₹480 per quintal, urad by ₹400 per quintal and soybean by ₹436 per quintal.

In view of the substantial groundnut production in Gujarat, the state government has also decided to procure up to 120 maund of groundnut from each farmer, the release added. The announcement for the procurement on MSP comes at a time when the farmers in the state have been facing crop losses in close to 16,000 villages due to unseasonal rains.

On October 20, Gujarat government had declared a ₹947 crore financial aid package for farmers affected by unseasonal rains during August and September. After the recent round of unseasonal downpour, the state government has not only launched a survey of affected areas, but is also planning to declare a comprehensive relief package.
