The Gujarat government has begun the process of land acquisition for construction of greenfield airports at Dahod and the temple-town of Dwarka. These two airports are part of the 11 new airports that have been planned in the state.

Pre-feasibility studies, identification of land for the airports and Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) survey have been completed for both these airports during the last one year, the state government stated in a written reply during the three-day long monsoon session of the Gujarat Assembly on Tuesday. An OLS survey maps imaginary airspace around a proposed airport-site, identifying obstacles that could pose a safety risk to aircraft during takeoff, landing and flight.

The government has now started the process of acquisition of land, stated the written reply which was part of starred questions during the Question Hour in the state legislature.

Meanwhile, the government also said that it is expanding the Keshod airport in Junagadh district, for which 205 acres of government and private land have been acquired and the same has been handed over to the Airport Authority of India (AAI). In 2024-25, Keshod handled 19,322 passengers, a growth of 39 per cent over the previous year. Similarly, land acquisition processes for expanding Bhavnagar and Porbandar airports are also underway, the government added. In 2024-25, Porbandar handled 694 passengers, a drop of 72 per cent over the previous year, while Bhavnagar handled just six passengers, a drop of 80 per cent.
