Gold price today: Yellow metal drops sharply; check 24K, 22K city-wise rates in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai & more

Gold prices fell sharply on Monday in the futures trade, tracking weakness in global markets as a stronger dollar and cautious investor sentiment ahead of key US economic data kept bullion under pressure. As per news agency PTI, analysts said traders remained wary with crucial indicators such as US retail sales, PPI, jobless claims and GDP data due this week — all of which could shape the Federal Reserve’s December policy outlook.On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), December gold futures slumped Rs 1,477, or 1.19 per cent, to Rs 1,22,714 per 10 grams, with a turnover of 9,400 lots. Silver also declined, with December futures falling Rs 1,176 to Rs 1,52,975 per kilogram.In global trade, the dollar index stayed firmly above the 100-mark, its highest level in nearly six months, limiting upside for precious metals. On Comex, December gold fell 0.95 per cent to $4,076.90 per ounce, while silver slipped 0.74 per cent to $49.54 per ounce. Analysts noted that markets now price in nearly a 70% probability of a 25-basis-point rate cut next month, up from around 40% last week, after US Fed officials signalled support for further easing.

Mumbai recorded 24K gold at Rs 12,513 per gram and 22K at Rs 11,470. The 18K price stands at Rs 9,385. All categories saw declines of Rs 71, Rs 65 and Rs 53, respectively.
