Gadchiroli to get government tasar silk cocoon market, ₹3.88-cr project approved
The Government of Maharashtra has granted administrative approval for setting up a government tasar silk cocoon market at Armori in Gadchiroli district, a move aimed at ensuring fair and assured prices for tasar silk farmers and strengthening the tasar silk value chain in eastern Vidarbha.
The project has been approved under the Integrated and Sustainable Textile Policy 2023–28, with an estimated cost of ₹3.88 crore. Once operational, the modern cocoon market is expected to provide tasar silk producers access to an open and transparent trading platform, helping them secure competitive prices for their produce.
The proposed facility will create dedicated infrastructure for the storage, auction, marketing and handling of tasar silk cocoons. Officials said the project would also generate local employment and contribute to strengthening the rural economy in the region.
Market Complex
As part of the development, the market complex will include an administrative building, water supply and sanitation facilities, electrification and barrier-free access for persons with disabilities, internal roads and a drainage system.
The project will be implemented through the Directorate of Sericulture, following guidelines issued by the Central Silk Board. The initiative is expected to provide greater economic stability, build market confidence and ensure more sustainable incomes for tasar silk farmers in the region. The government has issued a government resolution formalising the decision
