DoCA launches logo contest for India’s ‘Right to Repair’ Repairability Index

Open to Indians aged 16 and above, the contest runs till November 30 and seeks a logo embodying sustainability, circular economy, and consumer empowerment under the LiFE and R3 (Reduce, Repair, Reuse, Recycle) movements.
The Chair on Consumer Law at National Law University Delhi, has crowdsourced creative content from citizens across the nation through a Logo Design Competition, on behalf of Department of Consumer Affairs, on “Right to Repair through Repairability Index”
DoCA has developed the Right to Repair through the Repairability Index Framework to empower consumers and reduce e-waste by enabling transparent and informed product choices. The framework covers four key sectors, including automobiles, mobile and electronics, consumer durables and farming equipment. Once implemented, the index will focus on assessing, rating and comparing products based on their ease of repair. Products will be rated based on their repairability, allowing consumers to compare repair-friendly options and make informed decisions before purchasing.
“The proposed logo will serve as a visual representation of India’s transition towards a circular economy, promoting responsible consumption and consumer empowerment,” the notice stated. The competition is open to all Indian citizens aged 16 years and above as on November 1 and entries can be submitted by November 30.
This logo will visibly indicate a product’s Repairability Index rating, symbolise the core principles of the Right to Repair and the circular economy and will also serve as a certification mark that consumers can easily identify. “The proposed logo should encapsulate the essence of the LiFE Movement, the R3 philosophy (Reduce/ Repair, Reuse, Recycle), and the spirit of consumer empowerment through sustainability. It will serve as a recognisable symbol for repairable, sustainable, and responsible products,” the official notice added.
