Coonoor Auctions: Tea sales hit on subdued export demand
A subdued export demand has hit sales percentage of leaf varieties of tea at Coonoor auctions.
Traders cited delayed shipments as the reasons for declining demand in Sale 33. There are also complaints on the quality issues for the brew in the wake of heavy rains in production centres.
Global Tea Auctioneers said that the offered quantity in leaf category was 16,03,345 kg, with a sales percentage of only 75, while dust grades 4,17,028 kg registering 82 per cent sales.
In leaf CTC, high-priced teas and better liquoring sorts were lower ₹6 to ₹8 and more at times. The better medium sorts were also lower by ₹2 to ₹3, occasionally some quality lots sold dearer by ₹2 to ₹3 and more at times in line with quality.
The mediums sorts were barely steady around to dearer by ₹1 to ₹2, occasionally some lots sold easier by ₹1 to ₹2 also.
The primary whole leaf grades in leaf orthodox were steady to dearer ₹3 to ₹4 and more at times in line with quality. The brokens were lower by ₹3 to ₹4 and more at times with some withdrawals.
The high priced teas and better liquoring sorts in CTC dust were generally easier by ₹5 to 6 and more at times with some withdrawals.
The primary orthodox dust grades were generally easier by ₹6 to 8 and more at times. The secondaries and finer dusts were also sold easier by ₹2 to 3 and more with some withdrawals.
