Chennai Airport’s UDAN Yatri Cafe: Tea at ₹10, Coffee at ₹20, What’s on the Menu?

No more spending ₹100 for a cup of tea or coffee at the Chennai airport. Now, one can sip a cup of tea at ₹10 or coffee at ₹20, thanks to the UDAN Yatri Cafe launched on Thursday. The cafe is located in the pre-check area of the T1 domestic terminal.

Passengers have complained about the high price of tea, coffee and snacks at the airport.

However, at UDAN Yatri Cafe, a water bottle will cost ₹10, a samosa at ₹20, and a sweet of the day at ₹20. “We want to sell it to the passengers because we feel nobody should be hungry at the airport just because the prices are high or prices are not reasonable,” the minister told newspersons on Thursday at the Chennai airport.

The first UDAN Yatri cafe was inaugurated on December 19, 2024, at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, commemorating the airport’s 100th anniversary. The daily sales are nearly ₹35,000, he said. There is a plan to launch the cafes in other airports.

The UDAN Yatri Cafe today aligns with the spirit of the UDAN scheme (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik), which aims to democratise air travel and modernise airport infrastructure. Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Rajaa attended the event, according to a release.

Naidu said that the 86,135 sq m expansion of Terminal 2 is underway to enhance international operations. Additionally, the refurbishment of Terminals 1 and 4 is progressing with an investment of over ₹75 crore, while a comprehensive traffic flow management system, costing ₹19 crore, is being implemented to ease city-side congestion, says a release quoting the minister at the launch of the cafe.
