Blenders push up tea prices at Kochi auctions

Blenders continue to be active in the Kochi Tea auction resulting in the CTC dust market continuing to appreciate further.

The auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said that good liquoring teas were firm and dearer in sale 43 following quality and all blenders absorbed 66 per cent of the offered quantity of 6,57,543 kg. However, some high-priced teas were irregular and lower. A strong demand was forthcoming from major packeteers, while exporters operated at the bottom of the market and covered a nominal quantity.

In orthodox dust, the market for primary grades was barely steady, while the rest was lower and witnessed a lot of withdrawal. The quantity offered was 15,500 kg with upcountry buyers and exporters absorbing small quantities.

CTC leaf steady

Orthodox leaf market was also strong with a 94 per cent sales out of the offered quantity of 3,12,038 kg, thanks to active export support from buyers of Middle East and CIS countries. The average price realisation was up by ₹1 per kg at ₹186.50. Upcountry buyers were selective.

In CTC leaf, the market for medium brokens and Fannings was steady, while plainer types were dearer. The quantity offered was 33,500 kg, with Kerala and upcountry buyers lending fair support.
