Bengaluru metro travellers attention! BMRCL adds seventh train; aims to reduce yellow line peak-hour waits

Metro commuters on Bengaluru’s Yellow Line are set to get some relief during peak hours, as waiting times have been reduced following the induction of a seventh train into passenger service by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on January 15.With the additional train, peak-hour services from Monday to Saturday will now operate at a frequency of one train every 10 minutes, compared with the existing 13-minute interval. The development is expected to bring relief to commuters by easing congestion during rush hours. Sunday peak-hour frequency is also expected to see slight improvement, with trains running every 14 minutes instead of once every 15 minutes.BMRCL clarified that there will be no change in the first and last train timings from the terminal stations at RV Road and Bommasandra on any day.Alongside the service upgrade, BMRCL also announced the introduction of mobile-based QR code unlimited travel passes, effective January 15, as part of its push towards digital ticketing. The passes will be available for one, three and five days through the official Namma Metro app and will replace the need for a Rs 50 refundable security deposit that was earlier required for contactless smart cards.Metro users having new passes will be able to scan the QR code displayed on their mobile phones at automatic fare collection gates for both entry and exit. The one-day pass has been priced at Rs 250, while the three-day and five-day passes will cost Rs 550 and Rs 850, respectively. According to BMRCL, the initiative is aimed at reducing queues and improving convenience for metro passengers.
