Anil George Joseph has been unanimously elected the chairman of the Tea Trade Association of Cochin at its 33rd AGM. He is the vice-president -Tea of SBU A vertical of Harrisons Malayalam Ltd.

Reflecting on TTAC’s legacy, he said, “Since the first Cochin tea auction in 1947, our purpose has remained constant: to protect sellers, buyers, and brokers, promote fair trade, and uphold integrity.”

Looking ahead, he said his priorities include modernising auction platforms, engaging younger consumers through social media, and positioning Cochin as a hub for premium, sustainable Indian tea.

“Tea is not just a commodity—it is a premium, sustainable, and proudly Indian beverage, a symbol of trust, vitality, and heritage. We need to fall in love with tea again and again,” he added.

Earlier, in his address, the outgoing chairman Appu Kurian has emphasised the need to formulate a common stand for the roll out of pan India auction for the benefit of the trade. The pan India roll out of auctions continues to remain on paper despite the technology and purposes and the authorities should extend all support for that evolution, he said.

The tea industry is passing through troubled times and there should be concerted efforts in promoting the trade by all stakeholders, he added.
