AIIMS Nagpur Signs MoU to Strengthen BMT Services with Bal Ayush Foundation, ETHealthworld
Nagpur: In a major step towards advancing tertiary healthcare and expanding access to life-saving treatments, AIIMS Nagpur has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bal Ayush Foundation, Bengaluru, aimed at strengthening its Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) facilities.
The MoU was signed on October 17 between Dr Prashant P Joshi, executive director and CEO, AIIMS Nagpur, Dr Vinky Rughwani, president, Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Society of India, and Lalit Parmar, representing Bal Ayush Foundation.
Under this collaboration, two additional state-of-the-art bone marrow transplant rooms will be constructed at AIIMS Nagpur, adding to the existing BMT units. The institute has successfully performed 12 BMTs to date, marking significant progress in providing advanced haematology and oncology care in Central India. This expansion will increase the total to four advanced BMT rooms, thereby enhancing AIIMS Nagpur’s capacity to deliver comprehensive, high-quality, and specialised transplant services.
Bal Ayush Foundation will support the infrastructure development under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, reflecting a shared vision for healthcare excellence and equitable access to advanced treatment.
“The MoU was signed with the support and encouragement of Union minister Nitin Gadkari, whose leadership continues to inspire transformative healthcare initiatives across the region,” the institute stated in a press note.
This collaboration marks an important milestone in AIIMS Nagpur’s mission to deliver cutting-edge, compassionate, and inclusive healthcare, further consolidating its position as a regional leader in bone marrow transplantation and advanced medical care.
Dr Rughwani said, “Allogenic transplants, especially for sickle cell and thalassemia patients, would now be done under the MoU. As a BMT recipient requires a room for a long period during the recovery period, the number of patients getting benefitted was low. Now, more patients will simultaneously undergo BMT under this initiative. We are also arranging funding through CSR,” he said.
