VOC Port to get five-star beach resort amid industrial growth in Thoothukudi

The VOC Port Authority, which operates the VOC port in Thoothukudi, has initiated plans to construct a five-star beach resort near the port guest house. A tender issued by the VOC Port Authority says that port land near the port’s guest house will be allotted to set up a five-star beach resort for 30 years.
This is considering that many large industries are emerging near the port, and officials would find it convenient to stay closer to the project than 10 km in Thoothukudi town, said sources.
Currently, some of the large hotels in Thoothukudi town include GRT, SRM, Satya Resorts, and DSF Grand Plaza.
Vietnam’s VinFast has constructed a large electric vehicle factory near the port, and the inauguration of the new facility is expected to take place this month. In addition, projects worth over ₹41,000 crore are in the pipeline in the port town.
These are ACME Green Hydrogen & Chemical (₹27,000 crore); Green Infr Renewable Energy Farms Pvt Ltd (₹8,460 crore); Amplus Ganges Solar (₹6,000 crore) and Renew E-fuels Pvt Ltd (₹400 crore), said VOC port sources.
Other companies include Vikram Solar and Tata Solar, the manufacturers of Solar power panels and accessories. Further, the presence of a furniture park at SIPCOT, a windmill blade industry and probable industries such as shipbuilding, automobile accessories near the port has necessitated the need for a five-star hotel near the port, according to sources.
