KDMC takes action against private hospital for improper bio-medical waste disposal, ET HealthWorld

Kalyan: The Health Department of Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) took action against a private hospital in Kalyan for dumping the hospital’s bio-medical waste in the open.

The action was taken on Thursday night when the health inspector of the sanitation department, under a special cleanliness campaign, found medical waste in the garbage heap in the Gandhare area, which also contained some doctor’s prescriptions.

Atul Patil, Deputy Commissioner of the Solid Waste Department, said, “On the basis of the doctor’s prescription, we collected a penalty from the hospital and warned them not to throw medical waste in the open.”

Patil also appealed to other hospitals in the city to give their medical waste only to the agency appointed for hospital bio-medical waste collection and not to dispose of such waste anywhere else, otherwise strict action will be taken.
