PM Modi reaffirms support for startups on National Startup Day

Speaking on National Startup Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted how reforms have enabled startups to venture into sectors such as space and defence while contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The government is working with all stakeholders to further strengthen the country’s startup ecosystem and remains committed to supporting youth who want to take risks and solve problems, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said.
Startup-friendly reforms
“The reform express that India has embarked on has created a very conducive atmosphere for startups to venture into areas previously unthinkable, be it space, defence and more. I am proud that our StartUps are playing a pivotal role in building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat’. We remain committed to supporting our youth who want to take risks and become problem solvers,” Modi said in a social media post on X’ on the occasion of `National Startup Day’ on Friday.
Decade of Startup India
The PM noted that the day was special as it marked a decade since the launch of `Startup India’, and that startups had proved to be engines of change, shaping the future of the economy and society, he said. “They are doing exceptional work in addressing the challenges our planet faces and at the same time generating opportunities for people. I am proud of each and every person who dared to dream big, challenged conventional norms, took risks and created a transformative impact through their startups,” the PM added.
Global expansion push
India’s free trade agreements and partnerships with various countries and blocs would also help startups grow further, Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said. “With India’s strengthening trade partnerships with countries globally, more avenues will open for our Startups to expand their markets, create global impact, and build the next generation of Indian success stories,” Goyal said in a social media post.
Startup ecosystem scale
There are over 2 lakh startups in the country recognised by the Department for Promotion of Investment and Internal Trade (DPIIT) supporting over 21 lakh jobs, according to figures shared by the government.
Policy incentives offered
Recognised startups are eligible for benefits such as tax incentives, prioritisation in public procurement, access to a self-certification compliance system for labour and environmental laws, and exemption from inspections of their place of business, per the DPIIT.
