India’s wholesale prices rose ​0.83% year-on-year in December ‌after a 0.32% decline ​a month earlier, government data showed on Wednesday.

Economists polled by Reuters expected wholesale prices to rise 0.3 per cent year-on-year in ​December.

Inflation in December picked ⁠up primarily due to an increase in the cost of ​manufacturing in ⁠sectors such machinery, food products and textiles, a government statement said.

KEY NUMBERS

Wholesale ‌food prices were ‌flat in December compared with a 2.6% ‍decline in the prior month.

Vegetable prices in ‍December declined 3.5% year-on-year after a 20.23% drop in November.

Prices of manufactured products rose 1.82% year-on-year in December compared with a 1.33% increase ⁠in the prior month.

Fuel and power ​prices fell 2.31% year-on-year ⁠in December compared with a decline of 2.27% a month earlier.
