Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd clarified that the layoffs announced in recent reports are part of an earlier decision by the company to rationalise workforce by 15 per cent.

“As a part of its omni-channel approach, the company has been re-modelling and integrating its business divisions to create a more agile and collaborative organisation structure. Furthermore, this optimisation is an ongoing exercise based on business dynamics and has no impact on the operation/performance of the company,” said Zee in an exchange filing.

Strategic approach

The layoffs were first announced on April 5, 2024 by Zee’s then MD & CEO Punit Goenka in line with his overall strategic approach.

Goenka initiated the rationalisation process to “arrive at a streamlined team that is sharply focused on the set goals for the future.”

At the time, the company said the move will help it arrive at a cost-effective operational model with speed and agility as the core areas of focus.
