GST 2.0 Boosts E-Commerce Trade by 22%: Nirmala Sitharaman, ETCFO
Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Traders Federation felicitated Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the GST 2.0 tax revision and tax reduction measures, at PSG Convention Centre at Neelambur on Tuesday.
More than 1,000 traders from across the state participated in the felicitation event. President of Tamil Nadu Traders Federation A M Vikrama Raja expressed gratitude for reducing the GST tax rate to two categories, and stated that the GST reduction brought great economic benefits to traders during the festive season.
The federation submitted a petition with charter of 33 demands, including the need to convert the two types of GST into one, to the minister.
The federation also requested a pension scheme for small traders, similar to the pension scheme for small farmers, and steps to simplify the procedure for imposing penalties for taxation and registration. Speaking at the event, the minister said, “After the announcement of GST 2.0, a trade of $67.7 billion was done from September 22, 2025, to October 2025, and e-commerce trade increased by 22%.”
She added, “The tax reduction measure increased the purchasing value of both the people and the income of traders, which led to growth in industry and employment opportunities. In particular, the automobile sector, insurance sector, and the sales of electrical appliances, including TV and AC, grew due to the tax reduction measure.”
She said steps are being taken to further simplify the GST registration process and income tax filing procedures.
