VOC port reaches new milestone by handling of 103 windmill blades in a single ship

VOC Port in Thoothukudi on Tuesday created a new milestone with the handling of 103 windmill blades in a single ship. This is the first time such a large number of blades was handled at the port.

This achievement surpasses the earlier record of 101 blades exported on August 22, thus setting a new benchmark in renewable energy cargo handling, a statement said.

Up to October of this fiscal, the port has handled 2,300 windmill blades, a 61 per cent increase over the 1,425 blades handled in the corresponding period of last year.

The blades shipped through the vessel MV GHT MARINAS arrived from port of Qinzhou, China. The shipment are being handled at Additional Berth-II with two harbour mobile cranes ensuring safe and efficient handling. The Vessel Agency, Stevedoring, Custom House Agent, and Ground Transportation are being handled by NTC Logistics India Pvt. Ltd.

The blades of 89.5 m and 76.8 m length require specialized handling and dedicated storage arrangements. The Port has a dedicated storage area of 1,00,000 square metres within the customs-notified area and vast area outside to custom bond for accommodating such over-dimensional cargo.
