Uttarakhand infra boost: PM Modi unveils over Rs 8,000 cr projects in Dehradun; key initiatives in water, energy, sports & more
Uttarakhand marked its Silver Jubilee on Sunday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Dehradun to inaugurate multiple development projects and engage with local residents.Governor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Gurmit Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the programme, where PM Modi interacted with stakeholders and addressed the gathering.He said, “This day of November 9th is the fruit of a long and arduous effort. Today is a day that makes us all feel proud. The dream that the people of Uttarakhand had dreamed for years was fulfilled 25 years ago under Atal ji’s government. After the journey of the past 25 years, seeing the heights at which Uttarakhand has reached, it is natural for every person who struggled to build this beautiful state to be happy…”The Prime Minister also released a commemorative postal stamp for Uttarakhand’s 25th anniversary and launched development projects worth over Rs 8,140 crore.These projects include water, energy, sports, and education initiatives. He also transfered Rs 62 crore directly to over 28,000 farmers.Major launches during the event:
Commemorative postal stamp released
To mark 25 years since Uttarakhand was carved out as a separate state, Prime Minister Modi released a commemorative postal stamp.
Projects worth over Rs 8,000 crore
During the event, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs 8,140 crore. This includes the inauguration of projects worth over Rs 930 crore and the laying of foundation stones for projects worth over Rs 7,210 crore.These initiatives target core areas such as drinking water, irrigation, technical education, energy, urban development, sports, and skill development.
Rs 62 crore transferred directly to farmers
The Prime Minister also released a support amount of Rs 62 crore under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana. The funds were transferred directly into the bank accounts of more than 28,000 farmers, ensuring timely financial assistance and risk coverage under the crop insurance scheme.
Inauguration of key infrastructure projects
Among the projects inaugurated by PM Modi were the Dehradun water supply coverage for 23 zones under the AMRUT scheme, an electrical substation in Pithoragarh district, solar power plants on government buildings, and the AstroTurf Hockey Ground at Haldwani Stadium in Nainital. These projects are expected to improve essential urban services such as water supply and electricity while also enhancing energy efficiency and facilities for sports.
Foundation stone laid for major hydro-sector projects
The Prime Minister will also laid the foundation stone for two significant hydro-sector-related projects. The first is the Song Dam Drinking Water Project, which will supply 150 million litres per day (MLD) of drinking water to Dehradun. The second is the Jamarani Dam Multipurpose Project in Nainital, designed to provide drinking water, support irrigation activities and generate electricity. These projects are aimed at strengthening water security and boosting the state’s hydro-power potential.
Other upcoming projects
Alongside these, the Prime Minister also set the foundation stone for the construction of new electrical substations, the establishment of a Women’s Sports College in Champawat, and a state-of-the-art dairy plant in Nainital. These projects are expected to support both skill development and local economic growth.
