Festive surge: UPI transactions values go up 10% in October

Mumbai: The value of UPI transactions jumped nearly 10% in Oct compared to Sept as payments and money transfers surged during the festival month. According to data from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the value of transactions rose to Rs 27.3 lakh crore in Oct 2025 from Rs 24.9 lakh crore in the previous month, marking a 9.6% m-o-m increase and a 16% rise from Oct 2024.The number of UPI transactions also saw strong growth, rising 5.4% m-o-m to 20.7 billion in Oct from 19.6 billion in Sept. On a y-o-y basis, transaction count was up 25%, reflecting continued expansion in digital payments across retail and peer-to-peer transfers.Even after accounting for the higher number of days in Oct, the transactions, as reflected by average daily value and volumes, were up. The average daily transaction count increased to 668 million in Oct from 654 million in Sept, while the daily transaction value rose to Rs 87,993 crore from Rs 82,991 crore-a 6% monthly rise. Compared with Oct 2024, average daily transactions showed a similar growth pattern, up around 25% in volume and 16% in value.
