Likely cyclone Montha may propel towards Andhra Pradesh coast

The well-marked low-pressure area over south-east Bay of Bengal concentrated into a depression and lay centred this (Saturday) morning about 420 km west-southwest of Port Blair; 990 km south-east of Visakhapatnam; 990 km east-southeast of Chennai; 1,000 km south-east of Kakinada; and 1,040 km south-southeast of Gopalpur.

Eyeing Andhra coast

It is likely to move nearly to west-northwest, intensify into a deep depression by tomorrow (Sunday), and into a cyclone, be named Montha (contributed by Thailand), over south-west and adjoining west-central Bay by Monday morning. Thereafter it is may move to northwest towards Andhra Pradesh coast during subsequent two days.

Meanwhile, an existing depression over east-central Arabian Sea moved north-northwest on Saturday morning, and was located about 380 km west-northwest of Panjim; 400 km south-west of Mumbai; 620 km north-west of Mangaluru; and 640 km north-northwest of Aminidivi.

Rain outlook

It is likely to move nearly northwestwards across east-central Arabian Sea during by tomorrow (Sunday), India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy rainfall at isolated over interior Tamil Nadu today and tomorrow and on Tuesday, and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on Monday.

Andhra Pradesh: Very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema for three days from tomorrow (Sunday) and isolated heavy rainfall on Wednesday.

Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall is likely at isolated over interior Andhra Pradesh for next five days.

Telangana: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is on Monday and Tuesday.

Odisha: Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted for three days from Monday. Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places tomorrow.

West Bengal: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely for three days from Tuesday.
