AIIMS satellite centre farm coming up in Uttarakhand’s Kiccha, likely to miss 2025 deadline, ETHealthworld

Rudrapur: The AIIMS Satellite Centre which is coming up in Kichha of Udham Singh Nagar district may not be ready by 2025. Once hailed as a major healthcare milestone for Kumaon, the project is far from completion, with nearly 50 percent of the construction work pending.

The foundation stone for the satellite centre was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Nov 2022. Being developed under the supervision of AIIMS Rishikesh, the project is spread over 110 acres at an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore. In 2024, officials of the executing agency had assured Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami that the work would be completed by 2025, though the on-ground situation is very different.

Workers at the site revealed that only half of the work had been completed so far.

One of the site engineers said “It will take at least one and a half to two more years to finish the remaining work.”

The under-construction facility includes a multi-storey residential block for staff on one side of the road and the main hospital complex on the other. At present, the hospital structure has only reached the stage of three- to four-storey columns, with roofing, interiors, and essential infrastructure yet to be developed.

Kichha MLA Tilak Raj Behar said “The work on the AIIMS Satellite Centre is progressing, but at a slow pace. The sooner it is completed, the sooner people will start benefitting from it.”

Once completed, the hospital will house 280 beds in compliance with the National Disaster Management Authority standards. It aims to provide modern healthcare facilities such as ICU, OPD, and IPD units to the residents of Kumaon and the Terai region. Patients requiring advanced treatment will be referred to AIIMS Rishikesh after preliminary diagnosis.
