ICAI elects Charanjot Singh Nanda as president, Prasanna Kumar D to serve as VP, ETCFO

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the largest accountancy body in the world, has elected Charanjot Singh Nanda as its new president for the term 2025-26. Nanda, a veteran chartered accountant with over 34 years of experience, takes over the role as the 73rd president of ICAI. Alongside him, Prasanna Kumar D, a chartered accountant from Andhra Pradesh, has been chosen as the vice president for the same term.

The oath of office was administered to Nanda and Kumar by Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal in a ceremony held in the national capital on Wednesday.

Nanda, who previously served as the vice president of ICAI, has been an active member of the Institute’s Central Council since 2004. Over the years, he has chaired several important committees, including the Internal Audit Standards Board, the Committee for Members in Industry, and the Women Members Empowerment Committee. His leadership has played a significant role in the development of new Internal Audit Standards and in fostering a collaborative environment for Chartered Accountants across various industries.

Nanda’s contributions extend beyond ICAI. He has represented the Institute in numerous government and regulatory bodies, such as the Quality Review Board and the SEBI Advisory Committees. His international engagements include involvement with the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), which has further enhanced his reputation in the global accounting community.

Nanda’s educational journey began at M.L.N. College, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1987, consistently securing a place on the merit list at Kurukshetra University. He went on to qualify as a Chartered Accountant in 1991, marking the beginning of a distinguished career that has spanned over three decades.

With ICAI having more than 4 lakh members and nearly 10 lakh students, the election of Nanda and Kumar represents a significant moment for the Institute as they take on leadership roles in shaping the future of the profession.
