Parting Ways with Trump Ahead of 2024

Puerto Rican reggaeton star Nicky Jam has withdrawn his support for Trump in the 2024 election, following offensive remarks made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe. In a video posted to Instagram, Jam shared his perspective, emphasizing his disappointment. The backlash extended to other influential voices as Bad Bunny voiced support for Kamala Harris, also sharing a video that highlighted Puerto Rico’s resilience and influence, with a caption simply reading “Garbage.” In his video, Bad Bunny said, “We are the definition of heart and resistance,” expressing frustration with how Puerto Ricans are perceived. Ricky Martin, who also supports Harris, echoed this sentiment, responding, “That’s what they think of us.” Many social media users rallied behind Jam and Bad Bunny’s views. Despite being U.S. citizens, Puerto Ricans are unable to vote in general elections, adding another layer of frustration among supporters.
