Over 80% power projects reviewed by the PM under PRAGATI commissioned

Under the PRAGATI ecosystem of multiple layers, a total of 237 power projects worth ₹10.53 lakh crore have been reviewed at various levels, which are commissioned.

Under the PRAGATI ecosystem of multiple layers, a total of 237 power projects worth ₹10.53 lakh crore have been reviewed at various levels, which are commissioned.

More than 80 per cent of the 53 power projects worth over ₹3 lakh crore, which were evaluated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently as part of the 50th PRAGATI review meeting, have been commissioned.

A top official said that a total of 53 projects worth ₹4.12 lakh crore have been reviewed under the Pro-Active Governance And Timely Implementation (PRAGATI) platform, out of which 43 projects worth ₹3.02 lakh crore have been commissioned.

The remaining 10 projects, with an investment of over ₹1.10 lakh crore, are under various stages of implementation. These 53 reviewed projects included 27 transmission projects, 14 thermal power projects, nine hydro power projects and three coal mine projects, the official added.

“The PM chairs PRAGATI review meetings directly with State chief secretaries and union secretaries to deliberate and address issues in specific projects and schemes. It has substantially improved inter-ministerial coordination and reduced procedural bottlenecks,” the official noted.

The critical projects fast tracked under PRAGATI include the Gadarwara Super Thermal Power Project in Madhya Pradesh, LARA Super Thermal Power Project (Stage-I) in Chhattisgarh, Parvati-II hydroelectric power (HEP) project in Himachal Pradesh, Pare and Kameng HEP in Arunachal Pradesh and Tehri pumped storage project (PSP) in Uttarakhand.

A senior Power Ministry official said PRAGATI-led monitoring minimised inter-departmental delays, significantly improving execution power projects. Consequently, several stalled power generation and transmission projects achieved commissioning, resulting in enhanced power availability, improved grid reliability and better utilisation of national investment.

Among the commissioned projects, state-owned Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) had 20 projects followed by NTPC with 14 projects. NHPC, NEEPC, THDC, Sterlite have also commissioned two projects each. A transmission project in Uttar Pradesh has also been commissioned. Of the 10 under-commission projects, PGICL, NTPC, NHPC, THDC and Sterlite have two each.

Digital governance

PRAGATI is a strong example of how digital governance can translate intent into real, visible progress. Launched in 2015, the platform has reshaped how India tracks and drives major infrastructure projects and key social programmes, the official emphasised.

More than a review forum, it reflects a push to break bureaucratic inertia, strengthen a Team India approach across the Centre and States, and build a culture where decisions are time-bound, follow-through is expected, and outcomes are measured, the official added.

Under the PRAGATI ecosystem of multiple layers, a total of 237 power projects worth ₹10.53 lakh crore have been reviewed at various levels, which are commissioned.

Overall, in the 50th meeting, a total of 382 infrastructure projects, which included 53 projects of the Power sector, were reviewed. Of these, over 70 per cent of the resolved issues pertained to land acquisition (42 per cent), forest and environmental clearances (19 per cent), and Right-of-Way matters (14 per cent).
