ONDC MD & CEO T Koshy steps down

The Open Network Digital Corporation (ONDC) MD & CEO T Koshy has stepped down from his position. The leadership responsibilities for the Network, which is an initiative of the Centre, have now been transitioned to an executive committee.

“As with any dynamic and evolving organisation, a leadership change is currently underway. Koshy has expressed his desire to step down while helping on with the change. The MD & CEO responsibilities have been transitioned to an executive committee with Koshy available to the board over the next 3 months for advice,” an official statement from ONDC stated.

Last month, ONDC had said that it has crossed the 200 million transaction mark within three years of inception. The Network had said that it had taken about 20 months from January 2023-August 2024, for it to achieve the first 100 million transactions. But it crossed the 200 million transactions within the past six months by adding 100 million more.

“ONDC has witnessed remarkable growth in under three years and making strong strides toward its mission of democratising e-commerce in India. It continues to perform well and is on track to achieve its key milestones, driving transformation in line with India’s other pioneering DPIs across its core domains,” the official statement added.

Incorporated on December 31, 2021, Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), is an initiative of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and aims to create a facilitative model that revolutionizes digital commerce.

While mobility is the largest segment in terms of transactions for ONDC, other segments such as food & grocery, fashion, electronics and logistics have also been witnessing an uptick over the past year.

In January, the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME), in partnership with ONDC announced the launch of the MSME Trade Enablement and Marketing (TEAM) Initiative. This initiaitve aims to onboard 5 lakh Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), with 50 per cent of these being women-led businesses.
