Good liquoring teas continue to remain firm in Kochi auctions thanks to increased purchase by Supplyco to meet the Onam demand.

The auctioneers Forbes, Ewart&Figgis said that the prices of good liquoring teas was dearer by Rs2 to Rs3 and sometimes more in Sale 31.

The market witnessed a strong demand with a sales percentage of 93 out of the offered quantity of 6,74,723 kg in CTC dust.

All blenders together absorbed around 57 per cent of the total CTC quantity sold. The average price realization was up by ₹4 at ₹148 compared to Rs144 in the previous week.

Upcountry buyers and exporters confined to the bottom of the market. However, plainer categories were irregular and lower with some withdrawals.

In orthodox dust, the demand for primary grades was good, while secondary was less. The offered quantity was 12,500 kg with exporters and upcountry buyers absorbing small quantity sold. 

In leaf grades, there was active participation of exporters to Middle East and CIS countries. The market for whole leaf was firm to dearer, while remainder was irregular and lower. The quantity offered was 1,94,882 kg with a sales percentage of 82.

CTC leaf demand was good with market for better brokens barely remained steady. The quantity offered was 30,000 kg, witnessing 80 per cent sales. Upcountry and Kerala buyers lent useful support.
