Over 975 FPOs (farmer producer organisations) across all 30 districts and 312 blocks of Odisha have been onboarded on ‘FPO Odisha Portal’.
A media statement said that this portal has helped connect more than 3.2 lakh smallholder farmers into a unified digital ecosystem. The portal enables FPOs to register and manage operations online, apply for and track licences for seed, fertiliser, and pesticide sales and directly link with buyers.
An inbuilt tool called ‘FPO Assist’ functions like a digital mandi, where FPOs list available produce and buyers respond with purchase inquiries. So far, over 313 commodity listings and 70 buyer linkages have been facilitated through the platform. With this portal, the entire workflow of obtaining agricultural input licences is digitised and streamlined.
Linked platforms
The statement said that the portal is part of Odisha’s larger digital governance framework, linked with platforms like Krushak Odisha, Go Sugam, SAFAL and OSAMB. It includes a ‘Search and Connect’ function that helps buyers, institutions and partners locate FPOs based on geography, crop and trade focus. An AI-powered chatbot is currently in development, which will help FPOs get information and apply for government schemes, navigate compliance steps and even plan their business growth through interactive support.
The portal was recently showcased to a 40-member international team from the Gates Foundation, who observed live demonstrations of input supply, marketing and financing transactions through the system. Odisha was selected among five states for the National FPO Registry proof-of-concept, and the Directorate of Marketing, Government of India, has recommended the FPO Odisha Portal as a replicable model for other states, it said.
Quoting Amit Patjoshi, CEO of Palladium India, the statement said: “The FPO Odisha Portal is a real-time example of how technology, when grounded in local needs and driven by inclusive design, can dramatically shift the trajectory of smallholder agriculture. It transforms how farmers think about their place in the market, in policy, and in the larger economy. With this Portal, Odisha is not just empowering its farmers, it is building a roadmap for the rest of the country.”
