ICAI forms group for work-life balance; President Agarwal urges oganisations to prioritise employee well-being, ETCFO
In the wake of recent tragic incidents, including the death of Anna Sebastian Perayil, a Chartered Accountant at Ernst & Young (EY), the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has taken a significant step by forming a dedicated group to address work-life balance and stress management.
Anna’s mother has alleged that excessive workload and stress contributed to her daughter’s death, raising serious concerns about mental health in high-stress professions.
ICAI’s Commitment to Well-Being
To tackle the urgent need for work-life balance, ICAI has appointed Seema Gerotra, Additional Director on Work-Life Balance & Stress Management, to lead initiatives aimed at improving well-being within the profession. The increasing demands on professionals have underscored the detrimental effects of high-pressure environments on personal health and professional efficiency.

ICAI’s New Initiatives
In light of these pressing issues, ICAI has introduced several initiatives to promote a healthier work environment:
Work-Life Balance Awareness Programs: ICAI will conduct workshops and awareness campaigns focused on physical activity, mindfulness, and emotional well-being.
Comprehensive Stress Management Initiatives: Collaborating with health institutions, ICAI will roll out stress management programs that include counseling services and mental health support for members and students.
Collaboration with Industry: ICAI plans to work with industry partners to promote flexible work models, such as remote working and wellness programs.
Peer Support Networks: New networks will allow members to share experiences and seek advice on managing stress effectively.
Special Counseling Helpline: ICAI will introduce a counseling help desk within its National Call Centre (9997599975) to assist members with stress management and work-life balance concerns.
