GMC welcomes its first IVF baby, Health News, ET HealthWorld

Panaji: A year after launching the free IVF treatment facility, Goa Medical College on Tuesday announced the birth of its first IVF baby—a healthy baby girl delivered via caesarean section at the hospital.

“This achievement highlights GMC’s commitment to advanced healthcare and its dedication to supporting families. As part of this initiative, GMC offers free IVF treatment for Goan couples, ensuring that hope and happiness reach every deserving home,” said health minister Vishwajit Rane.

Rane earlier said that of the first 25 IVF treatment beneficiaries, 10 patients received positive pregnancy results, with one patient even expecting twins.

The free IVF treatment facility was inaugurated in Aug 2023 by chief minister Pramod Sawant at GMC, alongside assisted reproductive technology (ART) and intrauterine insemination (IUI) services. This positioned Goa as the trailblazer in accessible fertil ity treatments.

IVF treatment is widely recommended by medical professionals worldwide when other fertility treatments prove ineffective in addressing issues that hinder conception and childbirth.
