Express transportation company Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) has expanded its Bengaluru express hub with a new 60,000 sq ft facility in integrated air hub at the AI-SATS Logistics Park, Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.

With this, the total operational footprint in the city has touched 100,000 sq ft. The launch comes as the airport advances plans to nearly double its annual cargo capacity to 1 million tonnes , positioning Bengaluru as a critical export gateway and aligning the FedEx investment with India’s next phase of high-growth manufacturing and trade.

The semi- automated hub can process up to 4,000 packages per hour, supporting rising demand from electronics, auto components, and SME-driven e-commerce exports.

Speaking to businessline, Suvendu Choudhury, Vice President – Operations, Planning and Engineering, India, said the company is “positioned comfortably in South India” owing to strong growth momentum.

Choudhury added that the last two to two-and-a-half years have been “good” for FedEx, with the company growing at significantly higher double-digit numbers. “We are making significant investments. We had capacity, and now we are augmenting it,” he said.

Key gateway

Bengaluru has also emerged as a key Asia-Pacific gateway, following FedEx’s addition of a direct Guangzhou–Bengaluru–Europe 777 freighter, which has reduced transit time by a full business day.

With this, the Bengaluru network has 10 weekly flights operating from Bengaluru, and 22 weekly flights from India. Choudhury said FedEx is targeting sustained double-digit growth despite macro-trade volatility, signalling strong confidence in long-term India demand.

SMEs form a major share of FedEx’s customer base in India, accounting for over 60 per cent of its clients, with 30–35 per cent of total business now driven by e-commerce, he added.

The Guangzhou-Bengaluru connection, launched in November last year, has strengthened access to critical imports such as lithium-ion batteries and electronic components and increased export capacity to Europe and the US, enabling faster delivery for sectors including healthcare, engineering, automotive, aerospace and e-commerce.

FedEx currently employs over 5,100 direct employees in India.
