ESI Hospital in Tirupur Still Not Fully Operational After 10 Months, ET HealthWorld

Coimbatore: More than 10 months after it was inaugurated by PM Modi, the ESI hospital in Tirupur is yet to be fully operational, causing difficulties in providing treatment to patients.

The hospital on Pooluvapatti Ring Road in Tiruppur which was inaugurated through videoconferencing on February 25, is a 100-bed facility, with 32 residential quarters for employees. Constructed at a cost of 82 crore, the hospital is meant to cater to the needs of around 20 lakh insured employees and their family members in Tirupur and Erode districts, who had to earlier rely on the ESI hospital in Coimbatore.

A patient said, “However, with only 20 beds operational at the ESI hospital in Tirupur, most inpatients are unable to receive treatment and are being sent to the hospital in Coimbatore, especially for advanced medical interventions.”

“Several departments remain closed due to a lack of equipment, doctors, and technicians. It must be ensured that patients can receive all kinds of treatment at the Tirupur ESI hospital,” said another patient.

When contacted, hospital medical superintendent Dr R Srinivasan said, “At present, seven outpatient services are operational, and inpatient services are functioning with 20 beds. Emergency and casualty services, along with ambulance services, are also functional. The equipment required to operate the remaining beds and services is under procurement and it will take another three to four months to complete the process.” He added that the facility will be fully functional in a few months time.
