Dungarpur infant recovers from HMPV, state on alert, ET HealthWorld
Jaipur: A two-month-old from Dungarpur who tested positive for Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) on Dec 26 and was under treatment at an Ahmedabad hospital was discharged Monday.
The premature infant was transferred from Dungarpur to a medical facility in Ahmedabad on Dec 24 after developing respiratory problems. “The infant is now better,” Gayatri Rathore, principal secretary (Health), said on Monday.
Health minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar said the Union govt has reported minimal HMPV spread, but medical officers in Rajsathan have been directed to stay alert, and to ensure proper testing and treatment protocols. Director, public health, Ravi Prakash Mathur said the Union health ministry conducted video consultation with state health secretaries where it clarified that the virus was not fatal. However, as a measure of caution, govt has started surveillance in Dungarpur to prevent the spread of the virus.
The state has put in place five Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) for testing samples of HMPV. The authorised virus testing centres are in AIIMS Jodhpur, SMS Hospital in Jaipur, RNT Medical College Udaipur, Sardar Patel Medical College Bikaner, and SN Medical College Jodhpur.
