CCI approves HUL’s acquisition of Uprising Science

Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) is set to deepen its presence in the beauty and personal care market with the acquisition of Uprising Science Private Ltd, a deal recently approved by the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
The transaction will see HUL acquiring a 90.5 per cent stake in Uprising Science, with a structured plan to secure full ownership by purchasing the remaining 9.5 per cent over the next two years.
As one of India’s leading consumer goods companies, HUL commands a vast portfolio of over 50 brands across home care, beauty and personal care, and food and refreshments. This acquisition underscores its strategy to strengthen its dominance in the high-growth beauty and personal care segment, where it already owns prominent brands such as Lakmé, Fair & Lovely, and Dove.
Uprising Science specialises in skincare, body care, baby care, and hair care products, making it a strategic fit within HUL’s expanding personal care offerings. The deal is expected to create synergies in innovation, product development, and distribution, enabling HUL to leverage its strong market position to scale Uprising Science’s operations.
With Indian consumers increasingly gravitating towards premium, science-backed personal care solutions, this acquisition positions HUL favorably to capture a growing segment of the market.
While the detailed order from the CCI is awaited, the transaction marks yet another step in HUL’s aggressive push to solidify its leadership in India’s competitive consumer goods industry, economy watchers said.
