‘Campco ensures remunerative and stable prices for members’
The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative (Campco) Ltd has ensured remunerative and stable prices for arecanut in the past five years, even in volatile markets, according to Kishore Kumar Kodgi, President of Campco.
Addressing media persons in Mangaluru on Saturday, he said the price of new stocks of white arecanut, which was in the range of ₹240-320 a kg in 2020, increased to ₹360-485 a kg in 2025. The price of old stocks of white arecanut, which was in the range of ₹320-380 a kg in 2020, increased to ₹360-525 a kg in 2025.
He said the price of red arecanut, which was at ₹350-398 a kg in 2020, increased to ₹545-585 a kg in 2025.
Despite market volatility caused by illegal imports and GST-evading private traders, Campco stood firmly with the growers through every challenge, he said.
Turnover up over 50 per cent
Campco’s turnover has increased from ₹2,134.15 crore in 2020-21 to ₹3,631 crore in 2024-25. This growth of around 70 per cent in the last five years is a testimony to Campco’s brand strength and trust, he said. The cooperative has recorded around ₹210 crore profit in the last five years, Kodgi said.
Speaking on the outbreak of yellow leaf disease and leaf spot disease in arecanut plantations in Karnataka and Kerala in the past five years, he said the cooperative collaborated with institutions, scientists, and farmer groups to investigate the scientific causes and develop effective solutions.
Import price
Referring to the recent import policy revision on roasted arecanut, he said certain traders were importing roasted arecanut under different HSN codes, leading to price discrepancies.
Campco’s intervention in this matter helped in the revision of the import policy. The import of roasted arecanut under ITC (HS) codes 08028090 and 20081920 was changed from ‘Free’ to ‘Prohibited’, while imports remain free only if the CIF value is ₹351 per kg or above.
He said the cooperative’s consistent efforts helped raise the minimum import price of arecanut from ₹251 a kg to ₹351 a kg.
Considering the need for land for its future infrastructure development, the cooperative has brought land in places like Hebri, Vittal, Kadaba, Alankar, and in Puttur in coastal Karnataka.
Campco has acquired properties worth approximately ₹40 crore and has invested around ₹17 crore in new construction, renovation, and maintenance of its buildings, he said.
On the cooperative’s digital initiatives, Kodgi said Campco has launched Campco Saksham ERP system in partnership with Infor India Pvt Ltd. The system was successfully rolled out in April 2024.
Campco is getting ready to launch a mobile app for its growers. The app will provide real-time price information, and guide growers in crop care, and offer expert advisory, he added.
