AI boom: Anthropic to invest $50 billion in US data centre network with Fluidstack; Texas and New York first in line
Artificial intelligence firm Anthropic on Wednesday unveiled an ambitious $50 billion plan to build a new network of data centres in collaboration with UK-based Fluidstack, signalling its intent to expand rapidly as global demand for AI infrastructure surges, AFP reported. The facilities — to be built initially in Texas and New York –will form the foundation of Anthropic’s long-term push to power its growing suite of AI tools and services. The company said additional locations across the United States are also being considered.“These new sites will help us develop more advanced AI systems capable of driving scientific and technological breakthroughs, while also creating jobs across the country,” said CEO Dario Amodei. The announcement comes as technology firms worldwide rush to add data centre capacity, which forms the backbone of large-scale AI models. Such centres typically take years to complete and require vast amounts of electricity to operate.Anthropic, founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees and best known for its “Claude” AI platform, recently deepened its partnership with Google for expanded access to cloud infrastructure and high-performance chips. The company said it now caters to more than 300,000 business clients globally.
