Adani Airport Holdings Ltd will undertake the reconstruction of Mumbai airport’s terminal 1 from November increasing its passenger handling capacity by 42 per cent to 20 million annually, it announced today.
The reconstruction work will be complete by FY 29 and existing passenger traffic from terminal 1 will be shifted to airport’s terminal 2 and the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport.
Navi Mumbai airport is expected to be inaugurated on April 17 and commercial operations are set to begin from May.
At present the Mumbai airport’s terminal 1 has passenger handling capacity of 15 million per year. Akasa Air, IndiGo and SpiceJet operate from the terminal.
“This redevelopment is not only about expanding capacity – it is about future proofing our city’s place on the global stage. Our priority remains to deliver the exceptional service that our passengers have come to expect,” AAHL director Jeet Adani said in a statement.
The revamped terminal 1 will be built with a sustainable design and have state of art infrastructure, new baggage handling system, multi-modal transit options.
